J.R. Smith will be called upon to extend the reach of his game with Raymond Felton out 4-6 weeks.  But that shouldn't be a problem for the 27-year old.  He is versatile and he wants to win.  And the New York Knicks are winning because of his help.  However, Smith is vastly underpaid this year.  This means he will likely opt out of his contract after the season, but he wants to come back to New York.According to Sam Amick of USA Today, the Knicks want Smith back as well.  Based on their pursuit of him this past offseason, New York understands what he brings to the table.  The question will soon become whether the Knicks and Smith can agree on his value going forward, but for now Smith is enjoying his time and New York and would like to return."Honestly, I don't even know," he said when asked about his future. "Right now, I'm just trying to play it out and do the best I can throughout this year and hopefully I'll be back here. That's my plan. I don't want to play anywhere else. I love it here."Smith is averaging 15.7 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, and 2.7 assists per game.  He sunk the game-winning shot Wednesday night against the Phoenix Suns.  Smith has been a big part of why the Knicks have led the Eastern Conference for most of this season (they are in second place at 21-8 right now). With Felton's injury, Smith will likely be called upon to play the role of a point guard at times.  He is much more of a shooting guard, but he's been called upon to do this before and answered the call.  Smith provides options to the Knicks that they otherwise would not have.  He should be a part of their long-term plans going forward.  But they're going to have to pay him.
