While Rajon Rondo makes his run at a record night in and night out for the Celtics, Kevin Durant is quietly setting his sights on a slightly higher goal. Without James Harden by his side, Durant has been making a run at the title of “best player in the NBA,” which is ostensibly held by LeBron James until further notice. However, as the Durantula continues to fill up the stat sheet, the debate might soon be heating up. NESN.com NBA writer Ben Watanabe stopped by the podcast on Monday to break down Durant’s surge with NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette. The two also discussed the upcoming schedule for the Celtics, why Rondo’s assists streak matter, what it will take for Jason Terry and Jeff Green to play more consistently and much more. LeBron named East Player of the Week again

MIAMI -- Yes, LeBron James at barely 50 percent is still pretty good.Despite playing with flu-like symptomslast Saturday at Phoenix, the Miami Heat star capped a four-game stretch that was good enough for him to be named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday. It takes a lot for me not to play, James said after scoring 21 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the 97-88...

Rajon Rondo: Stat Padder?

After Rajon Rondo stayed on the floor in the final minutes of a blowout loss to the Detroit Pistons, many fans around the league have accused him of stat-padding. This is not the first time we've seen Rondo manufacture stats, such as passing up easy 2 on 0 layups or trying to score in the very last second when a game is over. I understand the criticism, but at the same time...

LeBron James calls 138-point scorer 'Sir Jack'

MIAMI (AP) -- Attention, Grinnell College basketball office: LeBron James wants the tape from Jack Taylor's record-setting scoring spree. Or as "King James" is now calling Taylor, "Sir Jack." The NBA champion Miami Heat took plenty of notice of Taylor in their shootaround practice Wednesday morning, one day after the Grinnell guard scored a record 138 points...

Rajon Rondo’s Assist Streak Keeps Going and Going and…

Rajon Rondo does things on the court many dream of. He will never win a 3-point contest or run a kids basketball camp on how to shoot correctly, but the man is fun to watch. His recent achievements are historic. Rondo has his eye on breaking Magic Johnson’s NBA record for consecutive regular-season games with double-digit assists. Johnson respectively had 46 games in row followed...

Ailing James, Heat end trip by beating Suns

PHOENIX (AP) -- Chris Bosh scored 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting, ailing LeBron James added 21 and the Miami Heat closed a six-game road trip with a 97-88 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night. The Heat, playing without Dwyane Wade for the second game in a row because of a left foot injury, led by as many as 15 in the third quarter and were up by nine with 5 minutes to...

Rajon Rondo’s Double-Digit Assists Streak Matters to Him, So Celtics Are Smart to Make It Matter to Them As Well

Asked over and over about what his streak of consecutive games with double-digit assists meant to him, Rajon Rondo came back with the same answer every time. “It means my teammates are making shots,” he said repeatedly after the Celtics’ win over the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, when he extended his streak to 33 games. And that was that, pretty much. Rondo’s streak reached...

Did Rajon Rondo Really Have 20 Assists On Saturday?

Before I get into this, allow me to clarify that this post is not being made to criticize Rajon Rondo.  My intent is to question the suspect manner in which NBA scorekeepers count assists.  In the following video, which has been provided by the NBA’s official Youtube channel, you will see each and every one of the 20 assists Rondo was credited for in Saturday afternoon’s matinee...

Why the Miami Heat Will Repeat

The Heat are coming off of their second title in the last six years, but instead of having Dwayne Wade and Shaquille O’Neal, they had Wade, Chris Bosh and Lebron James. It is no surprise that they were the champions, as they simply have the league’s top core and surrounded their superstar triumvirate with a fabulous group of role players. However, the Heat have actually improved...

Doc Rivers admits he told the Boston Celtics to help keep Rajon Rondo’s streak alive

During the waning moment’s of yesterday’s lopsided loss to the Detroit Pistons, Doc Rivers told his team it was obviously going to lose. And then he encouraged his players to help Rajon Rondo in keeping his double-digit assists streak alive. (CSNNE)“Why not? You guys keep talking about it, so I figured give him a shot at it.”“When I called a time-out,” Rivers recalled...

PHOENIX -- Miami's Chris Bosh scored 24 points, and a flu-ridden LeBron James added 21, including the clinching basket in the final minute, as the Heat held off a pair of fourth-quarter rallies Saturday to beat the Phoenix Suns for the fifth straight time, 97-88.
