NBA free agent Andrei Kirilenko has signed a three-year contract with powerhouse CSKA Moscow in his native Russia, the team announced Tuesday.
Kirilenko had been strongly considering playing Europe during the NBA lockout but was looking for a deal that would allow him to return to the NBA if the labor issues are resolved. His contract has that provision and the ability to opt out after each of the first two seasons.
Kirilenko is coming off a stellar performance at Eurobasket 2011, where he made the all-tournament team and helped Russia secure a berth in the 2012 Olympics with a third-place finish. Last season, CSKA Moscow missed the Euroleague Final Four for the first time in nine years. The 6-9 Kirilenko has spent his first 10 years with the Utah Jazz and is expected to draw interest once the free agent market opens. A solid defender, he has averaged 12.4 points and 5.6 rebounds in 681 games and was an All-Star in 2004.
