Amare Stoudemire's ailing knee has finally put him on the shelf.  The All-Star forward will miss the first six week of the season after re-injuring his surgically repaired left knee.  The injury, which occurred on October 19th, turned out to be more serious than anyone initially thought.According to Chris Broussard of ESPN New York, Stoudemire ruptured a popliteal cyst in his knee but thought he could return within two to three weeks.  He went for a second opinion and it turns out he will need more time before he can return to the court.  A decision has not been made as to whether Stoudemire will undergo surgery or simply rest. The injury comes as a surprise and a will certainly hurt the Knicks who are scheduled to open the season Thursday in Brooklyn if the game is not impacted by Hurricane Sandy.  The Knicks went 3-3 in the preseason with Stoudemire missing the final two games. Some may think this could be good news for the Knicks.  Somehow over the last couple seasons, the Knicks have shown an ability to win more when Stoudemire was not on the court.  The truth is, the team has not found a way for Carmelo Anthony and Stoudemire to be on the court at the same time while both players share the ball.  When Stoudemire is not on the court, Anthony scores 10% more - which makes sense.  But the team sacrifices size without Stoudemire, and that will hurt them defensively. With Tyson Chandler already injured, Stoudemire's injury could be devastating to the Knicks.  Fortunately, it is a long season.  The Knicks will have time to recover if he returns within six weeks.  In the meantime, the team will just have to give the ball to Anthony and let him do his best.
