The New York Knicks were without their star again last night.  Carmelo Anthony is still battling pain from a sprained ankle he suffered last Thursday.  The game last night against the Houston Rockets was the second-straight game he has missed.According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Anthony has not yet undergone an X-Ray or MRI.  The hope is that the injury will heal and further damage will not be discovered.  However, with Anthony still unable to play, the team may need to move toward further diagnostic procedures.  Anthony told coach Mike Woodson Monday afternoon that he couldn't go.Anthony is the team's leading scorer, and he is the second-leading scorer in the NBA behind Kobe Bryant.  At 27.9 points per game this season, Anthony is leading the Eastern Conference in scoring, but he is almost two full points behind Bryant for the NBA lead.  Regardless, Anthony has been the spark that has propelled the Knicks to such a positive start this season. With their loss last night, the Knicks fell to 18-6.  It was just their first home loss of the season.  They lead the Eastern Conference and have shown no signs of relinquishing that lead even while battling through injuries. Amare Stoudemire has yet to join the team, so the Knicks can get even better.  But for now, they are comfortable relying on Carmelo Anthony.  Now, they just need to get him back on the court. Anthony has averaged 24.7 points per game in his career.  This is his third season in New York after spending the majority of his career with the Denver Nuggets.  Anthony has had his ups and downs in his career, but this season he seems to be putting together the whole package.
