He was nicknamed “Flight White’’ and “Flight 75’’ in college because of his leaping and dunking ability. Now that he’s back in the NBA after an Italian League hiatus, Knicks reserve swingman James White is being nominated by the Players Association for the All-Star Slam-Dunk competition February in Houston. White was approached by union officials last week about the dunk competition. The union has more influence in the Saturday night skill competitions in the new format in which the conferences compete against each other. A team captain will be chosen for the East and West and make the final call on participants. A league source said the Knicks’ Steve Novak is expected to compete in the 3-point competition. via New York Post

Video Of The Week- Rasheed Wallace’s Greatest Moments

The NBA has truly done an amazing job with Christmas Day basketball, with five can’t miss games every single year. It is truly a Christmas treat to be able to watch Paul Pierce vs. Joe Jonson, Kobe vs. Melo, and LeBron vs. Durrant all in one day. One other player that will be suiting up this Christmas day is the one, the only, Rasheed Wallace. Although Rasheed probably makes an...

J.R.’s In a Groove

J.R. Smith began the 2012-2013 season on a tear by shooting lights out from the field and from 3-point range during the month of November.  J.R. was also stepping up in the rebounding category where he was averaging about 5 boards per game, a career high.  He was playing smart, doing all the right things on both sides of the ball, and limiting his random acts of craziness that...

Knicks Look to Get Back on Track Tonight

Knicks vs Suns: MSG 9pm   After the tough loss to the Lakers on Christmas Day, the Knicks are back at it again. This time they are against the Phoenix Suns. The Suns are struggling this year, but have some decent players like Dragic and Gortat. The Knicks are the walking wounded at the moment and I am not sure who will lace them up tonight. In or out of the line up the Knicks need...

Raymond Felton Questionable Vs. Phoenix With Sprained Pinkie

Raymond Felton has played with a bone bruise in each hand and now has a sprained ligament in his right pinkie. Because of his toughness he can’t be counted out for Wednesday night’s game against the Suns in Phoenix. But even he admitted after spraining his right pinkie on his shooting hand that if he plays he is likely to be limited by the injury. “I ain’t the same with...

January 1st Could Be Amare’s Return To Knicks

How effective will Amar’e be in his return?credit: espn.com The New York Knicks have been one of the major talking points around the NBA so far with an impressive 20-8 record. Lost in the shuffle is the man who was once seen as the building block of the franchise, Amar’e Stoudemire, who has yet to play a game this season. A knee injury has kept Stoudemire sidelined while the...

POTD 12/23/12: JR Smith on Greg Stiemsma

Sometimes, when I see JR Smith dunk, I wonder why he doesn’t do so as often as he used to.  Then it hits me: JR Smith is a nine-year NBA veteran.  It doesn’t seem like it’s been nearly that long since the New Orleans Hornets plucked him straight out of high school, and he doesn’t always conduct himself like elder statesman, but it has indeed been almost a decade since he...

Suns fall to Knicks on Smith's buzzer beater

PHOENIX (AP) -- J.R. Smith sank a baseline 21-footer at the buzzer after a Phoenix turnover with a second to play, giving the depleted New York Knicks a 99-97 victory over the Suns on Wednesday night. Smith's tough jumper from 15 feet had tied it at 97 with 10.6 seconds left. Then, after the turnover, Jason Kidd inbounded to Smith, who got the shot off as he sailed toward the...

Stoudemire calls Jan. 1 return a possibility

Injured forward Amar’e Stoudemire could be back on the court for the New York Knicks on New Year's Day. There are indications from Stoudemire that he could see his first action on Jan. 1 against Portland in Madison Square Garden. He called that date "a possibility" when asked when he would make his season debut, according to Newsday. The veteran forward is working...

Knicks-Suns Preview

The New York Knicks got off to their best start in decades due in large part to consistent 3-point shooting. They've recently struggled to hit from outside, and the team's recent slide looks like no coincidence. The Knicks will try to avoid rare consecutive losses on Wednesday night when they visit the Phoenix Suns. New York has employed the league's most 3-point-oriented...

Peace be with you Novak

Metta World Peace knocks Steve Novak Senseless Metta World Peace’s elbows are at it again, this time finding Steve Novak’s chin.  I’m pretty sure his elbows are illegal in 13 states. Metta played a great game in the Lakers much needed 100-94 victory over the Knicks.  He had 20 points on 6-11 shooting with 3 [...]

Knicks 94, Timberwolves 91

NEW YORK -- After a lackluster start, Carmelo Anthony turned it on in the final minutes and so did the New York Knicks, who squeezed out a 94-91 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Anthony, cold from the floor for most of the game and down to his last foul with 3:04 left in the game, finished with 33 points, scoring the Knicks' last 12...
