CLEVELAND -- Things seem to be coming together for the young Cavaliers and the rest of the NBA is taking notice. On Monday, Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Its a well-deserved honor, as Irving averaged a league-high 35.7 points in three games (all victories), and hit the final shot in Saturdays one-point win at Toronto. Irvings shot was a 28-foot three-pointer and came with .7 seconds left. Irving scored at least 32 points in all three games and shot 61 percent from the floor, starting with 40 points on 16-for-24 shooting in Tuesdays win over Boston. He followed with 35 points on 12-for-17 shooting in Fridays win vs. Milwaukee (in which the Cavs overcame a 20-point deficit), and 32 points on 13-for-26 shooting vs. Toronto. He also finished the week 19-for-20 on free throws (95 percent). "This has been a very good week for our team," Irving said. "We're working hard and making progress. While I'm honored to win the award this week, the most important and exciting thing is our success as a team and continuing our focus to keep getting better every day." Irving is the reigning Rookie of the Year and was selected to the East All-Star team by coaches last week. He is averaging 24.2 points, 5.6 assists and shooting 48 percent on the season. This is his first Player of the Week honor. He became just the fifth player in league history to record 30 or more points in three straight games before his 21st birthday -- joining John Drew, Bernard King, LeBron James and Kevin Durant. San Antonio point guard Tony Parker was named the Western Conference player of the week. The Cavs (13-32) host Golden State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Twitter: @SamAmicoFSO
