The NBA announced on Wednesday the final list of teams participating in NBA Summer League, which will take place from July 12-22 in Las Vegas. Both the Clippers and Lakers will be sending squads. The list of summer league teams includes 11 of this seasons 16 playoff teams and 10 non-playoff teams, along with the NBA D-League Select team, comprised of the D-Leagues best players. The 22-team pool will compete in a tournament-style competition for the first time in summer league history, with all participating teams being guaranteed at least five games. (Summer league had previously functioned solely as an exhibition, with teams amassing wins and losses but with no clear-cut winner.) From July 12-16, teams will play three games before the single-elimination tournament begins, and one champion will be crowned on July 22. The Clippers have sent teams to summer league since 2005, and the Lakers joined in 2007. Summer league teams are typically composed of players selected in that years draft, undrafted players looking for roster spots, international prospects and occasionally players with a year or two of NBA experience who need more time on the court. The Clippers summer league roster in 2012 included Eric Bledsoe, who had a breakout season in 2012-13, and both Travis Leslie and Trey Thompkins, who had played with the team the previous season in limited roles. The Lakers roster last summer included several players who appeared on the teams 2012-13 roster: Devin Ebanks, Andrew Goudelock, Darius Johnson-Odom, Darius Morris and Robert Sacre. Rosters are not typically named until about a week before summer league begins.
