Found November 27, 2012 on 5TH QUARTER MAGAZINE:
In an article by NBC Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to fix their not-so-consistent bench.  Only as of late has the bench stepped up, but still lacks in different aspects.  Antawn Jamison seems to have found a rhythm and so has Jordan Hill with his energy and activity, but the rest of the bench seems to be confused. Two players that have been rumored and linked to the Lakers are Raja Bell and Mikael Pietrus.  Bell is currently with the Utah Jazz and is looking for a contract buyout of some sort so that he could join a team of his liking.  This is due to his apparent rift with Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin and not being able to get minutes.  Bell is also a defender that has had his share of battles with Kobe Bryant.  For some reason, that notion of Kobe Bryant getting in your face in past seasons is a recurring theme in terms of signing those players.  As for Mikael Pietrus, he would give the Lakers some scoring off the bench, but that was said with the entire  bench when the Dwight Howard trade came rolling around. Bell and Pietrus would definitely add some more veteran experience off the bench aside from Antawn Jamison, but could be costly.  Whichever player the Lakers do decide go with, they would have to relieve themselves of a player or two from their current bench.

  • If the Lakers can dump Steve Blake that would be a start. Darius Morris, still making rookie type mistakes, has a lot more upside, can drive to the basket, shoot an occasional three and is a pretty good passer. Three things that Blake isn't. And he makes about $4mil less than Blake.
