Latest Update on Paul George's Contract Situation With Clippers
© Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

LA Clippers star Paul George is eligible for a contract extension, but has yet to reach one with the organization he has spent the last five seasons with. In a recent article, John Hollinger of The Athletic presumed that if George had a max extension on the table, he would have signed it by now.

"The Clippers are deep in the tax and don’t control their own first-round pick through 2030," Hollinger wrote. "Their best players are 32, 33 and 34, and they may have no choice but to pay two of them this summer and keep trying to push this rock up the hill. (Keep an eye on Paul George, by the way. Presumably, if there was a max extension sitting around for him, he would have signed it by now; I think it’s fair to say a couple of cap-room teams in the East are, um, 'monitoring' this.)"

The Philadelphia 76ers have been floated as a possible suitor for George this offseason, which is primarily due to their unique position as a contending team that also has cap space. There has been no real indication that George is interested in Philadelphia, but they are one of the few teams that can offer him max money and a chance to win.

For now, it continues to feel unlikely that George will leave the Clippers, but there is still no agreement on an extension.
