In an attempt to gauge which free agents the team could be interested in signing, the Los Angeles Lakers opened a free agent minicamp on Tuesday, three days before the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement is scheduled to expire.
Los Angeles invited 21 players for a workout in front of Laker general manager Mitch Kupchak as well as new head coach Mike Brown, preceding a four and a half hour practice scheduled for Wednesday.
The 21 players invited were NBA veterans Gerald Green, Bobby Simmons, Jermareo Davidson, Randolph Morris, D.J. Strawberry, Bobby Brown, J.R. Giddens, Cedric Simmons, Steven Smith, and Othello Hunter, NBA Development League and overseas veterans Josh Akognon, Eric Boateng, Trey Gilder, Leo Lyons, Kevin Palmer, Terrence Roberts, and finally undrafted free agents Jamelle Horne from Arizona and St. John’s Justin Burrell join Laker draftees Darius Morris, Andrew Goudelock, and Ater Majok in the minicamp.
