In 2009 the Detroit Pistons were placed in a similar situation as they are in now. They had tons of cap room and desperately needed to make a move to continue the success they had in the prior years. Unfortunately, on the first day of signings, the Pistons pulled the trigger on Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon. Both players that don’t play both sides of the ball and have proven to be liabilities at their positions. We are four years removed from the nightmare and its time to forget because those tough days are behind us. As Pistons fans I’m sure most of you held your breath after taking a look at the possible signings the Pistons were interested in doing. I can’t remember the last time the higher tier free agents were linked as possible candidates to join the team. After the 2009 nightmare, its only appropriate to assume Joe Dumars and company would make another set of lousy mistakes. Maybe not, I don’t think anyone on the hot seat in the professional arena would duplicate another set of poor signings. The storm has passed through Detroit and they did not make any quick signings for top dollar. History reminds us that a move can happen at any given moment and if the team fails to make a move now, then it can still happen later in the off-season. Richard 8Hamilton was signed in September of 2002, James Harden was traded days before tip off and Dwight Howard was traded sometime in August. Hang in there Pistons fans, there is hope when you have an owner willing to spend, a GM on the hot seat and an already established core.   Latest Free Agency Rumors It was reported Josh Smith met with the Pistons at 12:01 am on July 1st, the first day teams were allowed to talk to free agents. The meeting was five hours long and labeled as “productive”. Days later, the Pistons were reported to get ready to make a lucrative offer. Should the Pistons make such offer? After Bostons’ blockbuster deal with the Brooklyn Nets, it only makes sense that Boston is trying to rebuild. When a team is trying to rebuild, it also only makes sense to contact them about their best player. Danny Ainge rejected the idea that Rondo was on the block but he also made it clear that he is willing to listen to phone calls. Do the Pistons have enough to offer the Celtics for Rondo? I think they do Sources suggested the Detroit Pistons called Toronto for the availability of Rudy Gay. The Raptors are near the luxury tax and new GM Uriji, an ex Nuggets GM is also looking to clean house. Pistons fans must take notice that we made two deals with Denver in recent years and the Raptors could be a new trading partner for Detroit. The Pistons offered the expiring contracts of Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva for Rudy Gay. Unfortunately, the Raptors declined. Not much word on the Andre Iguodala sweepstakes, but he did have an offer withdrew from the Sacramento Kings totaling up to four years 56 million dollar deal. This was a very big offer and it would be wise for the Pistons to avoid giving the 30 year old if they want to manage themselves financially.   What do you guys think of the latest rumors?
