PLAYERS: Marcin Gortat
TEAMS: Phoenix Suns
On Thursday, Phoenix Suns big mag Marcin Gortat held nothing back when talking to reporters about what wrong in the team's disappointing 2013 campaign. The Suns finished with a 25-57 record and appear to be heading toward a major rebuilding effort in the future. And thanks to Gortat, we may now have some insight on the issues that plagued the Suns this year.“I think we need some changes,” he said. “We need some serious conversations. We need to look in the mirror and each one of us has got to ask if we did everything that was necessary to win, or if we did everything that was necessary to perform at 100 percent."Basically, Gortat called out his teammates for showing a lack of character throughout the season. But he wasn't done slamming them just yet.“Well, I would say we are missing character,” he said. “We are missing just strong minds on the team. We are just weak, mentally weak, basically. I would say that we just need more talent. We need more talent, we need more athletic, energetic guys, and people that want to compete and fight. That’s it."So, basically Gortat is saying his teammates were lacking both mental toughness and actual ability. He also appears to be pretty bothered by the fact that most of the players didn't care whether they won or not, which is apparent because the team lost 32 more games than they won in '13."...If you feel comfortable that somebody’s coming into your house and punking your ass by 30 points every night, it’s not right. It’s just not right. I’ve been in the league six years now and I’ve never been in a situation like that."These young guys, there’s a lot of young guys who just think they’re better than they really are."Although Gortat didn't call out any of the younger players by name, we can assume he may be referencing the likes of Michael Beasley, Markieff Morris, Marcus Morris, or Wesley Johnson. Each of those players haven't been in the NBA for too long.Gortat added that he hopes he won't ever have to go through a regular season again like the one he labored through this time around.“It was so uncomfortable,” he said. “It was a crazy season and no one wants to have a season like that again.”Via NBC Sports

What happened to the Suns? And what's next?

As the ironic battle cry All For Orange drifts into oblivion, here is what we already know about the Phoenix Suns future: President of basketball operations Lon Babby is back (at least contractually) for two more seasons. The 2013 first-round pick Babby conjured from the Los Angeles Lakers while negotiating Steve Nashs departure will not be located in the lottery. By finishing...

Suns labor in first season without Nash

The Phoenix Suns traded away two-time league MVP Steve Nash and let former All-Star Grant Hill leave to kick off a rebuilding effort, knowing it would likely lead to a difficult 2012-13 season. They probably didn't expect it to be this tough. With no go-to scorer, continuing defensive deficiencies and an interim coach who doesn't know if he'll be back in front of the...
