Found February 19, 2013 on Waiting For Next Year:
The Cavaliers are no strangers to trade deadline deals. With the NBA’s trade deadline looming this Thursday, the Cavs are one team with the cap room to absorb a contract, and have a couple players that teams may be interested in. Marreese Speights is one of those players. Since becoming a Cavalier in the deal with Memphis, Speights has averaged 13 points and 6.5 rebounds a game off the bench. He is proving to be a hot commodity off the bench, and several contending teams would love to have him. Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio reports that the Cavaliers have received offers for the big man- “Several teams willing to part with first-round picks for Cavs PF Marreese Speights, but most in 20-30 range. Nothing enticing Cavs at moment.” Speights has a player option for next season at $4.5 million dollars. The prevailing opinion is that Speights would decline that option and seek a better deal in free agency. The Cavaliers have to decide between keeping Speights and trying to re-sign him this summer or trading him now and getting something of value for him. A draft pick in the 20-30 range isn’t a great pick, but it could be part of a package of picks that the Cavaliers put together in order to move up to get a player they want. This is how they ended up with Tyler Zeller in last year’s draft. [Related: Cleveland Sports Life Boat- Cavalier Point Guards]

Kyrie: All-Star weekend was about “putting Cleveland on the map”

“I went out there just being myself. On Friday, I got a chance to do well in the Rising Stars with my teammates. On Saturday, I was blessed to be in the three-point competition. [...] I got going a little bit. A couple of the guys behind me were cheering for me. I knew that I had to bring at least one award back to Cleveland. That was always what it was about: putting Cleveland...

Quicken Loans Arena could see giant HD scoreboard upgrade

Dan Gilbert took in the All-Star festivities in Houston this weekend. One thing that was sure to grab his attention was the giant video screen scoreboard. Gilbert has spent over $40 million for arena improvements since taking over the team, but isn’t done. Improving cell reception in the Q has been the priority this season, but improving the scoreboard has been on his mind as well...

Cleveland Sports Life Boat – Cavaliers Point Guards

Sometimes I make bad graphics using PowerPoint. @dgriff13 and @cre8ive_juice eat your hearts out. I am a huge fan of the Ron and Fez show on Sirius XM Satellite radio. They do a bit on the radio called life boat, and I’m borrowing it for Cleveland sports. Here’s how it works. There are four people and only three seats remaining on the life boat. You must work your way through...

Cavs near decision time on Speights

INDEPENDENCE -- Its the week of the NBA trading deadline, and if youre a soon-to-be free agent, you can expect your name to hit the rumor mill. The Cavaliers have several players who fit that description, and none are bigger than power forward Marreese Speights. Technically, Speights wont become a free agent unless he decides to exercise the option on his contract at seasons end...

Kyrie Irving makes shots and a few more fans during All-Star weekend

He came, he saw, he left would-be defenders flailing about the floor like one of Ne-Yo’s backup dancers. Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving arrived upon Houston to join the NBA’s best and showed, instantly, that he belonged in the conversation. Irving may be unassuming. In a land where pyrotechnics and bass-thumping beats are met with strobe lights and giant video screens...

Box Score: Hornets 100, Cavaliers 105

The Cleveland Cavaliers made their ESPN debut with Kyrie Irving tonight, and Kyrie did not fail to deliver a performance worthy of the event. The New Orleans Hornets (who I will refer to as Pelicans from here on out because I can’t wait for it to be official) aren’t a good basketball team, but for most of the evening, the game was a back and forth affair. It started out sloppy...
