The Dallas Mavericks made two key personnel moves Monday. First, the team announced it has signed guard Mike James for the rest of the season. Financial terms were not disclosed. James is coming off a pair of 10-day contracts with the Mavs, having first joined the team on Jan. 8. He played in nine games during his 20-day run under contract, and impressed enough for the team to ink him to remain for the remainder of the campaign. James averaged 2.9 points, 1.0 assists and 9.9 minutes in his nine appearances, all that came off the bench. A 10-year NBA veteran, James is two short of having played 550 games in the league (including 263 starts) with 11 teams: Miami, Boston, Detroit, Milwaukee, Houston, Toronto, Minnesota, New Orleans, Washington, Chicago and now Dallas. His career averages are 10.2 points, 3.5 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 24.7 minutes per game. The other move the team announced was re-assigning guard and 2012 first round pick Jared Cunningham to the Mavericks' team in the NBA Development League, the Texas Legends. This will be the second D-League stint for the 6-4, 194-pound Cunningham this season. He had a previous seven-game stint with the Legends in December, during which he averaged 18.1 points, 3.0 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals in a lengthy 37.0 minutes per game during that stint. Cunningham has played in just eight games for the Mavericks this season, averaging 2.0 points and 3.3 minutes per game. His first game for the Legends will be Feb. 1 against the visiting Santa Cruz Warriors in Frisco, Texas, a Dallas suburb.
