Legend of Cecilio Guante:
Maybe we make too much of simple gestures of class in sports. Perhaps it’s because they are unfortunately not as frequent as one might expect or hope them to be. Regardless, an action need not be grand or flashy to be powerful. The Dallas Mavericks showed the class of their team and organization this weekend with only a series of handshakes.
I’m slightly late to the party on this one, but check out the video below from pre-game of Saturday night’s Dallas Mavericks/Houston Rockets affair in Houston. The night marked the first game Rockets head coach Kevin McHale returned to the bench following a month-long absence during which he left the team and joined his family as his daughter fought complications from Lupus. She died just before Thanksgiving at the age of 23.
I can’t even begin to imagine what any of those emotions are like. But, on the night you return to your team, it must be something to see the entire bench of your opponent empty, head over to your bench and shake your hand, hug you and offer their condolences. Classy move all-around by the Mavs.

Kevin McHale returned to coach the Rockets on Saturday for the first time since the tragic death of his 23-year-old daughter. The Mavericks each took the time to welcome him.
This weekend saw the return to basketball of Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale.
The former NBA All-Star has been away from the game since the tragic November 24 death of his daughter. Sasha McHale died of Lupus-related complications and was only 23-years old.
Before the Rockets took on the Dallas Mavericks, McHale spoke of the ordeal:

HOUSTON Kevin McHale does not know why he is here. Why today instead of yesterday, or instead of tomorrow? He cant answer that. Maybe he doesnt want to think about it.
"I have no idea," he said. "Are you kidding me? I have no idea."
Almost a month ago, McHale left Houston to be with his daughter, Alexandra, who had become sick. Her family called her Sasha....
James Harden missed Monday's game with an ankle injury, but he returned to practice yesterday. Unfortunately, Jeremy Lin suffered his own ankle injury at practice and will be evaluated today. Houston Rockets guard Jeremy Lin recently tweeted his recently decorated Christmas tree. Lin is about 6 feet, 3 inches and definitely towers over his tree by just a little. A safe assumption is that his decorated tree is a 6-footer. On another note, Jeremy Lin did include a little caption with his picture that said,
Decorated my first ever christmas tree…like a boss!!...
HOUSTON -- Perhaps this was a special, limited engagement of Linsanity. Rockets guard Jeremy Lin matched his career high of 38 points, but Houston could not overcome the San Antonio Spurs' bevy of sharpshooters, falling 134-126 in overtime Monday night at Toyota Center. Guard Gary Neal paced San Antonio (18-4) with a career-high 29 points, and Tony Parker notched his first...
As the focal point of the Rockets' offense this season, James Harden is shooting 25 percent on roughly four shots per game.

The Houston Rockets are still trying to figure out how to blend the talents of James Harden and Jeremy Lin.
Getting their starting guards back on the court together would help.
Harden and Lin are both questionable with ankle injuries Wednesday night when the Rockets try to avoid a season-high fourth straight defeat with the league-worst Washington Wizards in town.
The San Antonio Spurs survived a shootout of the highest order Monday night, beating the Houston Rockets 134-126 in overtime. With James Harden out with a sprained ankle, the key match up of the game was shaping up to be Tony Parker and Jeremy Lin. They did not disappoint. Parker finished with 27 points, 12 assists and 12 rebounds, his first career triple double. Lin had...
