New York Knicks
Los Angeles Lakers
DALLAS -- O.J. Mayo and Vince Carter combined for 52 points as the Dallas Mavericks escaped with a 114-111 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday night at American Airlines Center. New York (7-2) had a chance to pull out the win with a furious rally down the stretch, but Carmelo Anthony's jumper with less than five seconds left came up short. Mayo scored 27, with Carter adding 25 off the bench. The Mavericks (7-6) needed the win to stay above .500 -- they haven't been below this season -- with the Los Angeles Lakers coming to town Saturday. New York was paced by Anthony, who scored 19 of his 23 in the second half. The Knicks have lost both of their games on the road this season, the other coming Nov. 16 at Memphis. New York is at Houston on Friday. The Mavericks scored 65 points in the second half, a stat that didn't sit well with New York. "We took a step backwards, and a lot of that was in our transition defense," Knicks coach Mike Woodson sa...
BEST OF MAXIM
Dirk Nowitzki is going to be out longer than most had hoped. The Dallas Mavericks' star revealed yesterday that he would not return until mid-December at the earliest. It was certainly a blow to a team that is kicking and flailing as hard as they can to keep their collective head above water. However, looking long-term, Nowitzki delivered some potentially good news.According...
After living a previous life as a television sports anchor, I can understand getting flustered during a newscast.Check out WFAA's Ron Corning doing a story on the Dallas Mavericks displaying the Larry O'Brien trophy at the local Sam's Club.Watch as Corning comments on the size of Maverick cheerleader's bust size:
DALLAS (AP) -- O.J. Mayo scored 10 of 27 points over the final six minutes of the third quarter, when Dallas charged ahead, and the Mavericks held on for a 114-111 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday night.
Mayo put Dallas ahead to stay with a 17-foot fadeaway jumper with 43 seconds left in the third quarter to break an 80-all tie. That was part of a 20-8 spurt to end...
Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki told reporters, including Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News, that he will be sidelined for at least another three weeks as he continues to recover from knee surgery.“Well, unfortunately not as soon as we all hoped, I think,” Nowitzki said when asked when he might return to the court. “I think originally when the last statement we...
DALLAS (AP) -- Dirk Nowitzki says he is still about two weeks away from getting back on the court to start running and shooting. He's not sure how long after that it will be before he makes his season debut for the Dallas Mavericks.
The perennial All-Star forward is recovering from knee surgery. He says the goal is for the swelling to be gone 100 percent and his strength to...
Vince Carter drove the baseline and leaped, his feet hovering over the end line, when he reached out with his right hand and made a reverse layup.
That was part of Carter's 14 points in the fourth quarter for the Dallas Mavericks, after O.J. Mayo's go-ahead spurt to end the third, and it almost wasn't enough against the New York Knicks.
Dallas held on for a 114-111...
DALLAS Michael Finley once told me that loyalty is not about how you're treated by a team while you're playing. It's about how you're treated when you're done playing.
Judging by the frost coming from Mark Cuban, don't expect the Jason Kidd and Dallas Mavericks to make up anytime soon.
The emotions are still too raw at the upper end of the Mavericks organization...
In Dallas on Friday night, it would’ve been a fair argument for some Dallas Mavericks fans to say they recognized more faces on the opposing team than they did on the Mavs. After a second consecutive offseason overhaul, Dirk Nowitzki currently sidelined after knee surgery, and Shawn Marion remaining as the only key player from [...]
Dirk Nowitzki underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Oct. 19.
This is going to feel like the meanest thing we've ever written in 14 years of Mavs coverage: 'Strangely enough, in their time in Dallas, Lamar Odom and Troy Murphy almost mirror each other statistically.' Ouch. That hurt! As the Mavs get ready for the Knicks and for another month without Dirk, you are excused for grimacing in pain as you read this Premium analysis:
Jason Kidd played a key role in the Mavericks winning the franchise's only NBA title two seasons ago, but he's not likely to get a warm reception upon his return to Dallas - particularly from owner Mark Cuban.
Kidd will try to help the New York Knicks continue their best start in 40 years Wednesday night when he visits his former team for the first time since leaving via...
Chalk up another L for the Dallas Mavericks (their fifth in seven games), but color me impressed by OJ Mayo. In overtime, Golden State pounced on Dallas and scored the first seven points. The Mavs were able to recover, though, as Mayo composed an individual 7-0 run to tie the game. He got started by answering a Harrison Barnes three, then brought his boys to within a bucket...
Just thought I'd share a bit of nostalgia. Above is the 1995 All American High School Slam Dunk Contest featuring Paul Pierce, Kris Clack and Vince Carter. Carter eventually won but The Captain had some impressive dunks as well and made it to the Finals. After the Jump you'll see some of the highlights from the 1995 McDonalds All American game.
This was one of the...
Every morning, we will give you five things from the night before in the NBA to start your day.
1: Not your average Bobcats
Last year when the Charlotte Bobcats appeared on the schedule it was marked down pretty simply as a win. The Bobcats were not just bad, they were historically bad, comically bad and hopelessly bad. Whatever young players worth saving from that team,...
DALLAS -- Golden State guard Stephen Curry scored a game-high 31 points and handed out nine assists, outdueling Dallas guard O.J. Mayo and helping the Warriors take a 105-101 overtime victory over the Mavericks on Monday night at the American Airlines Center. The Warriors, coming off a Sunday loss at Oklahoma City, overcame 21 turnovers and awful shooting to improve their record...
