When lifelong North Carolina fan John Snipes and his buddies attended a Clemson-South Carolina football game seven years ago, they walked past an orange-and-white Clemson-themed hearse in the tailgate area with a tiger paw logo painted on the hood.
The rest of Snipes' group admired it, laughed, then forgot about it. Snipes, on the other hand, hatched an idea to one-up it.
Upon finding a beat-up 1974 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse for sale a few weeks later, Snipes purchased it, painted it Tar Heel blue and began the lengthy and addicting process of customizing his "HEELRAISER" to his liking.
First came the "HEEL-RAZR" license plate and the custom-made blue-striped tires with Tar Heel logo rims. Then Snipes redid the upholstery, added three sun roofs and installed flame-shooting spark plugs on the rear tailpipes. Next was the paint job with fiery blue graphics on the hood, the logos of North Carolina's ACC rivals on tombstones on the sides and a pair of skull and crossbones on the back. ...
