(When the lockout ends, the Miami Heat will have plenty of personnel decisions to make, on a roster where there are the Big Three and everyone else. This is the ninth in a series of evaluations on those who finished last season on the roster.)
Contract status: Unrestricted free agent.
Case for keeping: If the definition of a 15th man is a pro’s pro who sets an example, maximizes his abilities, and possesses a relentless work ethic, then Magloire is your man. He also is as close to an enforcer as it gets on this roster. And he comes to work on game nights well equipped with an assortment of sports coats.
Case for kicking: Have the Heat really needed him these past three seasons? It is one thing to have an enforcer, but there is not much enforcing from the end of the bench. The lift is gone, as is the ability to provide anything on offense.
We say: It’s been a fun run, but it’s over. Loyalty has meant plenty to the Heat, but that obligation clearly has been met.
