When the Phoenix Suns announced earlier this year that they had agreed to sign Michael Beasley to a 3-year, $18 million deal this off-season some heads were turned. Since being selected #2 overall, Beasley has consistently underachieved in the league. Only averaging 10.6 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game on 39.7% shooting, one could say Beasley has once again underachieved in Phoenix. He’s extremely talented, but had yet to put the full package together. Now according to Arizonasports.com, it appears Beasley recently had some off the court trouble as well. Beasley was pulled over for speeding recently, on January 25th. Going 71 mph in a 45 zone. The interesting thing turns out to be Beasley had a suspended license and was also carrying a loaded gun. All things that would add up to someone being arrested, but apparently the officer cut Beasley some slack. The police report states Beasley was handcuffed at 1:37 a.m. and brought to the patrol vehicle. The officer determined that based on Beasley’s height he was not going to fit well in the back seat of the car. Around 2:00 a.m., the report states, the officer told Beasley that since he was cooperative he would “cut him a small break” and cite him and release him from the scene instead of taking him to jail. Beasley would be smart to get it together. With his poor play and now off the court issue, we’ll have to wonder how long the Suns will sit by and stay quiet. Beasley is scheduled to appear in court February 11th.
