Milwaukee Bucks: Doc Rivers Make Shocking Decision When Asked Between 2 Star Guards
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Bucks have an elite point guard in Damian Lillard. The eight-time All-Star has been a great addition for the team, which helped them sit comfortably at second in the Eastern Conference.

With Lillard performing to standard, you would think that Doc Rivers would be gushing about his new point guard. However, a recent video of the Bucks head coach choosing another point guard over him should be enough to produce interesting talking points.

Milwaukee Bucks’ Doc Rivers chose Chris Paul over Damian Lillard in fantasy tournament

Doc Rivers was invited to participate in a fantasy tournament where eight NBA players were pit against each other until one player is left standing.

One of the matchups during the earlier rounds of the tournament had Lillard pitted against Chris Paul. Doc Rivers have a good idea on how these two players approach the game.

It took Rivers a good second before he finally made the decision to select Paul over Lillard. The choice may shock people, especially if we consider the current form the two players are in.

However, Paul was unstoppable during his peak years with the Los Angeles Clippers. During his six years in Los Angeles, he averaged 18.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists on 48% shooting and 38% from deep. His impressive court vision and high basketball IQ might have made him a better point guard in Rivers’ standards.

That doesn’t take away from how impressive Lillard has been, though. You can count the players who have the same three-point range as him in your hand. His clutch gene and impressive offensive game help the 33-year-old average 24.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists on 43%/36%/92% shooting splits in his first season away from Portland.

Understandably, it’s unfair to compare two outstanding players who play very different games. The preferences of the person who’s making the comparison will have a huge influence on which player will get selected.

Even though Paul is Doc Rivers’ ideal PG, he must work with Lillard to help the Bucks get over their late-season hiccups and finish strongly in the East.
