The Minnesota Timberwolves have struggled without their star player, Kevin Love, this year, but do not blame this on center Nikola Pekovic, who has been the team’s best player most of the year. He is a restricted free agent and at only 27 years old, still qualifies as young and is one of the 5 most gifted offensive centers in the league. They must resign him, whatever it takes. Pekovic has averaged 16.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this year, the former is 5th in the NBA among centers, the latter is 12th in the NBA and his 3.8 offensive rebounds per game are 4th in the NBA. He is a player who has proven that he can carry his team on offense if need be and he has two elite skills, post offense and offensive rebounding and can easily be considered a franchise center. Now it is time he gets paid like one. They will not find a better center on the open market who will want to play in Minnesota and so they must keep him long-term.
