Via NESN:

Let’s face it, folks. Instagram has become a full-on phenomenon.
Although the picture-filter application has received some criticism lately for its privacy agreement that effectively lets it do whatever it wants with its user’s pictures — and its embedding features shut down by Twitter — just the fact that Facebook paid $1 billion in cash and stock for the app should say something.
Likewise, because Instagram has become so widely used, we can start to learn about people’s tendencies in a sort of amateur sociology. Call it the science of social media.
So, then, what were the top 10 most-Instagrammed locations in 2012? Well, according to Instagram itself, the most common location is Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. However, three sports venues are among the top 10 and, perhaps surprisingly, there seems to be a West Coast bias.
Los Angeles’ Staples Center and Dodger Stadium and San Francisco’s AT&T Park were all among the top 10. While we can’t necessarily pose an explanation for the LA buildings, we will point out that San Francisco’s proximity to Silicon Valley and its progressive-minded politics make it a prime location for social media use. For years AT&T Park was even considered the largest wireless hotspot in the country.
However, whether or not you’re an Instagram user and wherever you’re from, we will point out that Fenway Park looks mighty fine through the application’s fake nostalgic lens.
