He’s the President of the United States, and just because he’s the most powerful man in the world, it doesn’t mean that he is also awesome at sports.

We all know that Barack Obama happens to be a huge basketball fan, but his love of the game doesn’t necessarily translate to skills. During the Easter celebration at the White House, the POTUS took some time to shoot hoops, and it didn’t go well.

From ABC:

After missing three during a general shoot around, Obama lined up with kids at the free throw line. The kids were asked to stand on opposite sides of the president based on whether they thought he would make it. Only one boy went to the “miss” side.

“Oh, man,” the president declared, but the boy stood his ground (and rightly so). Obama took his shot. It hit the rim, circled and dropped outside.

The president then posed for pictures and went off to play tennis on the other side of the court.

Minutes later, at O for 4 the president, an avid basketball player, declared “I have to hit one shot before I go.”

Yeesh. That’s 18 shots in row he missed, and 2 for 22 overall. That’s actually worse than last year when he missed his first 7 attempts before sinking a shot.

And then it began. A series of painful misses and air balls.

After six more failed free throws, Obama traded balls. After 10 misses, he moved in closer. After 11, he tried a few layups.

After the president missed 13 shots in a row from various distances, 10-year old Kahron Campbell stepped in to help.

Campbell made the layup on his first try.

Then, finally, on his 18th attempt of the morning, the president made his layup.

“He couldn’t make one. I had to help him out,” Campbell later told pool reporters (off-camera).

Obama tried several more outside shots, finally hitting from the baseline on his 22nd total attempt, before leaving the court.

Make fun of Gerald Ford all you want, but he never would have embarrassed himself playing a sport like that.

2 Comments:
  • Looks like his budget plan, oburmercare and the United States economy. He doesn't have a clue.
  • Not only did he miss on the basketball court but he missed on his promise of cutting the debt in half by the end of his first term. He was way off on that unless he acutally meant to double it, which he was closer to accomplish and by 2016 will have done with ease.

In the land of the obvious, the Utah Jazz will reportedly match the $63 million offer sheet Gordon Hayward received from the Charlotte Hornets earlier this month.  Jazz will match Gordon Hayward's $63M sheet, but wouldn't be a surprise to see them take full 3 days to notify Hornets, sources tell Yahoo. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) July 10, 2014 It has long been...

Does Papelbon want to be traded to contender?

The hot news out of Milwaukee isn’t the fact that the Phillies took three straight from the team that entered their series with the best record in the National League. No, it is the fact that Jonathan Papelbon has reportedly stated his desire to play for a team in contention before the end of the month. His quotes and post game actions are captured here by Ryan Lawrence: After...

Mark Cuban had Parsons sign offer sheet where???

I don’t think you could dream up a more appropriate way for Chandler Parsons to sign his $45 million offer sheet from the Dallas Mavericks, than to have Mark Cuban be with you while hanging out in a nightclub. Parsons, the third-year forward for the Houston Rockets, has suddenly been thrust into the spotlight of Houston’s off season, as general manager Daryl Morey attempts to...

It looks like more bad news for Daniel Bryan. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion has been sidelined since early May with a neck injury that required surgery.  The hope was that he would not be out of action for more than a few months but instead his recovery has gone much slower than anticipated. Now, he is reportedly dealing with another injury that will further delay his...

Pitino on Chris Jones: As good a guard as I've coached

Rick Pitino has coached some pretty good guards during his nearly 40-year career in college basketball.  Recently at Louisville, there was Russ Smith, the two-time All-American, and Peyton Siva, the point guard who led the Cardinals to a national championship in 2013. He had a host of talented players at Kentucky, too, the school with which he won it all in 1998.  A player currently...

Former NBAer uses 'Patrick Ewing' alias, gets arrested

Former Chicago Bulls player and assistant coach Rick Brunson had a clever trick up his sleeve in order to get an appointment with a masseuse he’d been banned from seeing. Records show that the 42-year-old Brunson had booked 19 appointments – seven of which were with the accusing party — at Lifetime Fitness in Vernon Hills (Ill.) from December 2011 through August 2013.
