It’s not uncommon for NBA refs to halt the free throw shooting process of a player for something like a substitution or even a last-second timeout.
Some refs prefer the player not shoot the free throw at all, while other refs don’t seem to give a s**t one way or the other.
Well, Courtney Kirkland gave a s**t. I mean, he REALLY, REALLY didn’t want Kris Humphries to take a free throw in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night’s Nets-Raptors game. Take a look:
This is a first, right? Has a referee ever tried to physically block a player’s free throw before? It’s like this was about more than basketball for Kirkland. It’s like that ball was about to strike down his firstborn or his wife.
At one point I think Kirkland was honestly striking a perfect Jordan brand jumpman pose. Wow. I mean, any chance you get to completely ignore the whistle around your neck during a moment made for it in favor of rushing forward as if you were trying to take a bullet for the president, you have to do it, right?
