The Sacramento Kings could very well let guard Tyreke Evans leave to join the New Orleans Pelicans, and in his place they’re going hard after free agent small forward Andre Iguodala. Late Tuesday night the Kings offered Iguodala a four-year, $56 million deal and are now considered the front-runners for the 29-year-old. Iguodala has garnered interest from all over the NBA since free agency opened on Monday, and he has already met with the Detroit Pistons. Meanwhile the Denver Nuggets reportedly offered Iguodala a five-year, $63 million deal on Monday in an attempt to bring him back into the fold after he opted out of his contract with the team a few weeks ago. The Pelicans are also interested in Iguodala, as are the Golden State Warriors, who probably don’t have the kind of money it would take to sign him. The Kings need to figure out what they’re going to do with Evans first. If they agree to a deal with Iguodala, then Evans will be gone. The four-year, $44 million offer sheet New Orleans gave Evans may not actually be the contract he takes, since he also met with the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. If Evans signs the offer sheet with the Pelicans, the Kings will have some time to match it. The team is reportedly considering retaining the 23-year-old, but I sincerely doubt they actually do it. Iguodala would be a better option for the team since he brings an outstanding work-ethic and the kind of professionalism the franchise desperately needs right now. For Iguodala, I seriously doubt he’ll get a better contract offer than what the Kings have put together for him. Iguodala is a lock-down perimeter defender who holds career averages of 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.7 steals in 37.4 minutes per game. He was an All-Star in 2012 and was also a member of the gold medal-winning United States men’s basketball team at the 2012 London Olympics.
