The NBPA has their first star president since Patrick Ewing’s term ended in 2001, in LA Clippers point guard Chris Paul. There is not much of a surprise here as Paul is a natural leader and has always been involved with the Players’ Union.
Paul was elected Wednesday at the union’s summer meeting in Las Vegas. It isn’t going to be an easy road ahead for Paul who now has the honor of cleaning up the mess that former NBPA president Derek Fisher and the union’s longtime executive director, Billy Hunter, caused over the last 18 months.
Roger Mason Jr., who was once thought to have the presidency locked-up, will join Paul as the vice-president, replacing free agent veteran Jerry Stackhouse. Lakers guard Steve Blake and Bobcats forward Anthony Tolliver were also elected vice presidents.
It’s going to take Paul and company a good amount of time to fix the mess that was left for them, but I think that the NBPA found the right man for the job; Paul might very well be the most liked man in t...
