Nene was one of the biggest names in available in the NBA free agent market. On Tuesday, the Denver Nuggets re-signed their starting center for $67 million over five years. A number of other teams were interested in him including the Houston Rockets and New Jersey Nets.
Last season, the 29-year-old averaged 14.5 points and 7.6 rebounds in 30.5 minutes per game. The 2011-12 season will be his tenth year in the NBA — all of which have been with the Nuggets.
Last summer, the Nuggets offered Nene $50 million over four years. Many experts thought Nene made a mistake in turning down that offer. As it turns out, Nene made the right decision. He’s now set for life.
As for the Nuggets, they have to be happy to bring back their best bigman. Losing Nene would have set the franchise back a few years.
