Nets Assign Cam Johnson, Nic Claxton to G League
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Nets have assigned forward Cameron Johnson and center Nic Claxton to the Long Island Nets of the G League, signaling that both starters are nearing a return.

Johnson has missed the entire early season with a calf strain and was upgraded from “out” to “doubtful” for Wednesday’s game vs. James Harden and the Clippers.

Claxton has been sidelined with an ankle injury since appearing in the season-opening loss to the Cavaliers.

“It’s been frustrating, especially getting hurt the first game of the season and even the way to the way I did it. But it’s coming along,” Claxton recently told Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “I saw it was taking a little bit longer than I expected and everybody expected. Like I said, it’s frustrating, but it’s an 82-game season, so what can you do? I’m not going to put myself in harm’s way. I’m just taking it day by day.”

Brooklyn (3-4) has been able to stay afloat despite the injuries, thanks in large part to the early-season scoring binge of guard Cam Thomas.

Both Johnson and Claxton are likely to be recalled before the next game.
