The Brooklyn Nets suffered a blow yesterday when the team announced that MarShon Brooks would miss 7-10 days. However, the team has to feel fortunate that the injury occurred during the preseason rather than the regular season. Brooks was in a walking boot yesterday after experiencing pain in the foot for the last couple days. According to Tim Bontemps of the New York Post, Brooks has tendinitis in his right foot. The Nets' guard is expected to miss about a week, but Brooks could miss five preseason games with the injury. Bontemps points out that the Nets' preseason schedule is jam-packed this upcoming week, which means Brooks could miss a lot of key game action. Of course, the lack of preseason conditioning could translate into the regular season. Bontemps also pointed out that the Nets are dealing with virtually a new team, so they will need as much time together as possible to figure out rotations and assignments. Brooks, for example, will be expected to play off the ball a lot more this season, and that's something he struggled with last year. The injury will hinder his ability to practice this before the regular season. Brooks is entering his second season in the NBA and with the Brooklyn Nets. Last year, he averaged 12.6 points per game. Brooks started 47 games last season for the Nets and averaged 29.4 minutes per game. The 23-year old out of Providence will likely be expected to contribute more in the Nets' first season in Brooklyn. They are trying to build a competitor, and Brooks will be part of that. The Nets open the regular season on November 1st against the New York Knicks. Follow @hoopsinjurynews
