Forward Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks suffered a groin strain injury against the Utah Jazz Monday night and was unable to return to the game. Despite the injury, the Knicks went on to win 99-88 with a gutsy performance led by newly appointed starting point guard Jeremy Lin. Anthony injured his groin in the first quarter when he attempted to connect with Tyson Chandler on an alley-oop. It was clear right away Anthony hurt himself as he slowly moved down the court wincing in pain. The Knicks called a timeout and Anthony headed to the locker room with trainers to get looked over. He returned to the sideline during the fourth quarter in street clothes. New York cannot afford Anthony to miss any significant time, especially when Amar’e Stoudemire has taken a leave of absence to be with his family after the death of his 35-year-old brother Hazell Stoudemire.
