J.R. Smith (Photo credit: Voxxi.com)   The Brooklyn Net’s newest member Paul Pierce seems to have created a seemingly never- ending controversial tension between him and his crosstown rivals. Now New York Knicks star J.R. Smith is stepping up and responding to Pierce and his antics, calling the small forward ‘bitter’. During an interview with ESPN New York on Saturday, Smith calmingly explained as to why he thinks Paul Pierce has created much drama between the two teams. “”I just look at him as a bitter person just getting out of Boston. He doesn’t really know what New York is all about. He’s been playing in Boston his whole career. “He just knows, just know that his words have consequences and he’s going to have to pay for them.” Yikes! I’m not to sure what J.R. Smith meant by his last comment as to how Pierce will pay for his words. Will it be off or on the court? Only time will tell what this actually means. Pierce who admitted to hating the Knicks since he first played for the Boston Celtics, recently shared his hatred for the Knicks team and how it has grown now that he is in Brooklyn. He took his heated rants onto radio airwaves and magazines, successfully receiving responses from his rivalry. One of the responses was from Knicks point guard Raymond Felton. “They will never take over the city. Because we’ve got ‘New York’ on our chest,” said Felton. “They’ve got ‘Brooklyn’ on their chest, and we’ve got ‘New York.’ They’ll never take over the city.” But all in all, the NBA League has recently tried to pour water between the heated feud from both teams demanding that both team owners, James Dolan of the Knicks and Prokhorov of the Nets squash the childish feud. According to a league source who spoke to the New York Post, the source said that while attending a meeting, NBA Commisioner David Stern reportedly said “play nice, guys,” to both team owners. The meeting was called to resolve any left over tension and prevent a tremendous feud between the two teams. But according to one league source, Prokhorov disagreed with Stern and said the feud “is great for both teams” and insisted that he had nothing personally against Dolan. Whether or not the tension between the two New York teams will escalate to a full-blown feud, Prokhorov does have a point when he claims the feud is good for both teams, since it has created much more anticipation amongst fans who are eagerly waiting the showdown on the court on December 5th.
