#Nets now 32-0 when outscoring opponent this season — Nets PR Dept. (@Nets_PR) February 20, 2013 Sad news struck the Internet and anyone who actually enjoys witty, unique and amusing repartee on Twitter on Wednesday when it was reported that the Brooklyn Nets have silenced easily the best Twitter account representing a public relations department for an NBA team. Need proof? Name one other Twitter account representing a public relations department for an NBA team that anyone has ever paid attention to in the history of Twitter. The brilliance behind @Nets_PR burst onto the social media scene back in February and quickly became a bona fide hit when the above tweet alternatively confused and delighted the blogosphere. But according to The Brooklyn Game, the sort of shenanigans contained in this tweet has been manifesting itself via the Twitter account for some time now. The Brooklyn Game also broke the news that the account was being deep-sixed, at least in its current format and subsequently explained the ridiculous reasons why. That’s because the Nets organization has decided to go in a different direction with how they use their PR account — specifically, changing the voice that represents the team’s public relations. The Nets want a unified voice from their public accounts, a voice that the PR account’s nature didn’t align with. This change was announced at the Sloan Sports Media Conference by Jayne Bussman-Wise, Digital Director of the Brooklyn Nets & Barclays Center, in a panel called “Staying Relevant: Social Media Analytics.” They are now in the process of figuring out how they want to utilize the account, if at all. The Nets declined to comment on the change. Lame. But good news, true believers: The man behind the brilliance of the Nets PR Twitter account, Calder Hynes, is still tweeting away and making his keen and amusing Nets-related observations, albeit via his personal Twitter account, such as this one: If the #Nets and Pistons meet in the playoffs, Brooklyn will have home court (3-0 this season) — Calder Hynes (@calder_h) March 19, 2013 As far as @Nets_PR is concerned, it has been quiet since Feb. 28. But we can nevertheless celebrate what it was when it was at its best, like when these two mind-blowing observations tweeted in the days after New Year’s Day: The Nets are undefeated this year — Nets PR Dept. (@Nets_PR) January 3, 2013   The #Nets remain undefeated this year — Nets PR Dept. (@Nets_PR) January 5, 2013 Fantastic. Farewell, @Nets_PR: You will be missed. [H/T With Leather] TweetThe post No!
