It hasn’t been in play since 2005, but the new CBA deal now contains something called an “amnesty clause.” This clause gives the organization to waive one “bad contract” if it meets the requirements. Once the player is released, the salary of that player does not count against the cap, even though the organization is still required to pay the player the given amount of money on his contract. Some believed that Elton Brand could be a victim of this, yet head coach Doug Collins has been adamant in retaining him because of his improved play last season. With that said, the most likely victim of the amnesty clause on the 76ers’ roster is wingman Andres Nocioni. The Argentine veteran is owed $6.7 million this season, which is a lot for a player that averaged 6.1 PPG and 3.1 RPG in the 2010-11 season.
