So Ty Lawson played pro ball in Lithuania this fall. After one game, he walked into the locker room by the showers.
“I was like, ‘What’s that smell?’ ” Lawson recalled.
He then spotted his teammate, Robertas Javtokas, standing under the shower … smoking a cigarette.
“I look over, he’s puffing and says, ‘Oh, what’s up Ty?’ ” Lawson said with a laugh.

Two years ago, Jordan Hamilton was one of the nation’s top prep recruits coming out of L.A.’s Dominguez High School. After finally deciding on the University of Texas, the 6-8 swingman followed up an up-and-down freshman campaign with an impressive sophomore season. With averages of 18 points and 8 rebounds and a pro-ready body, Hamilton decided...
The Denver Nuggets have signed NBA veteran forward Michael Ruffin, bringing their training-camp roster to 16.
Ruffin, 6-8, 248, has averaged 1.7 points and 3.9 rebounds with six teams in nine NBA seasons. He most recently played for the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2008-09 season.

Zhejiang 103, Foshan 96: As well as JR Smith has performed lately, I think he could be even better if he’d stop taking so many jumpers. I’m sure he didn’t want to, but in this game he was forced to resort to something other than the three-pointer to avoid a three-game losing streak. JR missed all five of his long-range attempts today, most of which came pretty early...
Usually NBA season previews are best read in October, back when football games hardly mattered, Midnight Madness was a few weeks away, and baseball was winding down. Perhaps with the last of the offseason's iced tea in hand, as you whiled away on a too-warm-for-the-season afternoon.
Well, pour yourself a glass of bull shot and tighten those mittens, because it's mid-December...
After three-plus seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, forward Corey Brewer won an NBA championship after joining the Dallas Mavericks last spring. The two-time NCAA title-holder brought his winning reputation to Denver when he was acquired by the Nuggets this week.
Danilo Gallinari didn't jump so much as he catapulted, as if some crazy combination of acceleration, force, torque and luck would make his desperate lunge Dikembe-like.
It’s a fair question. George Karl said the cramming of 66 games into 122 days is “taking a marathon and turning it into a triathlon.” (However, this analogy seemed inaccurate to me – isn’t a marathon harder?? – so I g-chatted my buddy Chris, who explained to me, “Yeah I think what he said works, because it implies more challenges over same amount of time –or over...
The NBA lockout had a crazy effect on the 2011-12 season, notably the shortened and condensed 66-game season and the shortened and condensed practice and preparation for it. Still George Karl and the latest edition of the Denver Nuggets are upbeat:
The Denver Nuggets have signed hometown forward Michael Ruffin, a nine-year NBA pro who most recently played for Portland in 2008-09.
