The Memphis Grizzlies' normally elite defense has fallen into a lull of late, costing them back-to-back losses in the process.
Memphis will need a return to its stout form Saturday night as it plays host to a Denver Nuggets team that is shooting extremely well and looking to beat the Grizzlies for the third time this season.
The Grizzlies (18-8) were 14-3 before losing five of their last nine, but the last two results have been especially glaring. They still rank near the top of the league in points allowed per game (90.8) and field-goal percentage defense (43.5), but they haven't looked like it in two straight defeats.
Memphis had no answer for Houston's high-scoring attack last Saturday, losing 121-96 - allowing 20 more points than its previous high by the Clippers in the season opener, with those being the only two times the Grizzlies have surrendered 100 this season.
Philadelphia nearly made it happen again Wednesday, shooting 52.1 percent in a 99-89 victory in M...

The diagnosis came after Pondexter underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Welcome back, Rudy Gay. The Grizzlies' forward, who missed Wednesday's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers because he was grounded out of town by inclement weather, scored eight points in a late 10-0 run to push Memphis past the Denver Nuggets 81-72 Saturday night at FedEx Forum. "It has been a couple of games since I was comfortable out there, and the...
From the Memphis Commercial Appeal: There was Haddadi, helping Quincy Pondexter off the floor after the guard suffered an MCL sprain with three seconds left in the third quarter. And he wasn’t just helping him — he was carrying him. And then, a few moments later, the Forum got as loud as I’ve ever heard it when Haddadi, inserted into the lineup to start the fourth quarter...
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Rudy Gay scored eight of his 19 points down the stretch and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Denver Nuggets 81-72 on Saturday night.

If the Memphis Grizzlies and Indiana Pacers live up to their reputations, points may be hard to come by Monday when the NBA's top two defensive teams meet in Indianapolis.
Memphis (19-8) ranks first in the league allowing an average of 90.1 points and improved to 12-2 when holding opponents below 43.0 percent shooting after beating Denver 81-72 on Saturday.
