The Denver Nuggets have officially come to terms with 2014 first-round draft picks Gary Harris and Jusuf Nurkic, team vice president of basketball operations and general manager Tim Connelly announced Thursday.
The Nuggets had to buy Nurkic out of his contract with Croatian team KK Cedevita so he could join Denver this season. It was very important for the Nuggets to develop Nurkic, who is just 19-years-old, under close supervision.
Nurkic was widely expected to play for his home country of Bosnia during the 2015 EuroBasketball qualifying round, but injured his knee when a teammate landed on it during a postgame celebration of Bosnia’s under-20 Division B title in July. The injury didn’t seem to be a huge concern to the Nuggets when they signed him to his new deal, and might actually serve to get the seven-footer in Denver faster.
Harris, also 19-years-old, played his sophomore season at Michigan State and was an honorable All-American mention in the Associated Press voting in 2014....
