Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra met with team president Pat Riley on Thursday afternoon to discuss roster options a day after forward Mike Miller went down with a thumb injury. Miller, a versatile veteran who shot 48 percent from three-point range last season, injured the thumb on his shooting hand Wednesday during practice.
According to Spoelstra, Miller’s thumb got caught in a teammate’s jersey. Miller did not make the trip to Atlanta and instead remained in Miami for testing and an MRI.
“We know how important Mike is to this team,” forward LeBron James said. “But he’s going to get some rest, let his body get healed up, and he’ll be back for the long run.”
