Beyond The Buzzer:
Pau Gasol was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis on Thursday, according to a team release.
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of a tendon within the sole of the foot. It’s a relatively common injury that can be resolved with treatment and orthotics (customized shoe inserts).
Gasol’s right foot was examined by Dr. Kenneth Jung via MRI. The Lakers list their forward/center as probable against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Some players are able to go all season with the ailment. Some sit for a stretch to try to alleviate the inflammation.

Dwight Howard is visibly not the same player he was before undergoing back surgery.
That’s right, the same team that had a historically awful performance from downtown against Portland — 0-of-22 — lit up the Los Angeles Lakers by shooting 54.5% from the perimeter — 12-of-24 opposed to L.A.’s 11-of-29 — for a team that doesn’t usually have more than a handful of three-pointers.
