Paul George Will Be The 'Top Target' For The Philadelphia 76ers This Summer

Clippers star Paul George has a big decision to make this summer as teams across the league monitor his situation in Los Angeles. According to 76ers insider Keith Pompey, Philadelphia is expected to heavily pursue the veteran swingman this offseason should he decline his player option with the Clippers.

“The Sixers have plenty of room to make a significant move. And they intend to do just that. Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George expected to be their top target if declines his $48.8 million player option with L.A. for next season.”

The 76ers came out storming to start the season, but they’ve cooled off a bit since Joel Embiid’s injury a few months back. The 76ers are now down in play-in range at 7th in the East but they instill just as much fear with Embiid back and rounding into mid-season form.

With Tobias Harris, Tyrese Maxey, and Norman Powell, the 76ers already have a pretty solid foundation around Embiid, and their chances of an upset this season are surprisingly high. But without a true veteran co-star and leader for the team, many question whether the Sixers truly have enough to keep up with the likes of the Celtics and Bucks.

As one of the best two-way wings in the league, Paul George’s arrival could change everything for the 76ers and it could unlock another level to their team. With averages of 22.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game on 47% shooting, George is having one of his best seasons ever as a Clipper and his impact has never been higher. The only question is, would he consider leaving Los Angeles this summer? Only time will tell, but we know who will be waiting if he ever becomes available.

A Disaster Is Brewing In Los Angeles

From the Pacers to the Thunder and now the LA Clippers, it took a few tries for Paul George to find his permanent NBA home. But now that he’s here, George is doing his best to make the most of it.

Alongside Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers have been firmly in the mix for years but they never completed the mission of bringing a title to the Clippers. With James Harden added to the equation, expectations are at an all-time high for Los Angeles, and they enter the postseason with massive pressure to make a deep run.

In each of his seasons with the Clippers so far, George has fallen short of a Finals run and has only made it past the second round once back in 2021. George is 33 now, and the clock is ticking for the Clippers to achieve the desired result.

This summer could be the end for this team as we know it, depending on how far they make it this June. With the franchise prepared to enter a new arena next season, what better way to kick off the new era with the team’s first-ever championship victory?

For now, it's still a long way off but there is no denying that a lot is at stake for this team. For Paul George specifically, what happens over these next few weeks could make or break his future in Los Angeles.
