Two days removed from a disappointing home loss against the San Antonio Spurs, the Celtics had to turn right back around and face perhaps the best team in the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder. They came in with a 9-3 record and an overtime win over the Clippers on Wednesday night. An emotional game for them, much like the Spurs game was for the Celtics. However, the Thunder won and the Celtics lost.
The Thunder rolled into Boston winning 9 of its last 10 games, hungry for a solid road win. The C's had different plans, however. They were ready to pick up a win after a bad loss at home. The game started very close, with both teams playing hard. The Thunder got a little bit of breathing room towards the end of the first quarter, pushing their lead to 7. The Celtics answered right back in the second quarter, outscoring OKC 27-17, and taking a 3-point lead into halftime. Boston took advantage of Kevin Durant's foul trouble, towards the end of the first half, which was a big reason why they were successful.
The third quarter is usually the one that the Celtics get dominated in. Not in this game, though. They came out of the locker room firing, scoring 29 points, and holding the Thunder to just 20. They took a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter. After trading buckets early on in the final period, the Thunder started to gain some momentum, and got the lead into single digits. Even so, Boston stayed the course, and after Oklahoma City got the lead down to three, Boston answered with a final push that gave them the win. Jason Terry finished the game off with a three to put the final nail in the Thunder's coffin.
Jeff Green was spectacular off the bench, scoring 17 points in his first game against his old team. He provided a spark off the bench that Boston has been lacking so far this season. It was encouraging to say the least. Rondo was his usual self, dishing out 16 assists, and extending his double-digit assist streak. He also grabbed 8 rebounds.
Kevin Garnett made a huge impact right away whenever he entered the game, and provided a defensive presence down low. He finished with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Terry was terrific yet again, scoring 16 points, and hitting some big shots down the stretch for Boston. He has averaged over 12 points per game in his last 5 games, shooting better than 50% from the field as well. He is starting to look like the Jason Terry that Celtics fans despised in Dallas.
Paul Pierce, the captain and the truth, was the real leader in this game. He was a consistent scoring option all night for Boston, wracking up 27 points for the game. He was a big reason for the Celtics' win.
It was a great game for Boston overall. It was a big performance that was long overdue for this team, and it will hopefully represent a turning point for this Boston basketball team. If they can get some momentum now, and start winning games consistently, it will help tremendously later on when the older guys need some rest before the Playoffs. The Celtics' next game is in Orlando against the 5-7 Magic on Sunday night. This is a game the Celtics should win easily if they come out with the same energy and intensity that they had against the Thunder. If they play as well as they did on Friday night against Orlando, it will be a long night for the Magic. If they let the Magic stick around and get lazy, then its a game the C's could lose. It depends on which basketball team shows up.

Just thought I'd share a bit of nostalgia. Above is the 1995 All American High School Slam Dunk Contest featuring Paul Pierce, Kris Clack and Vince Carter. Carter eventually won but The Captain had some impressive dunks as well and made it to the Finals. After the Jump you'll see some of the highlights from the 1995 McDonalds All American game.

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
He submitted a forgettable first half against the younger, quicker, more agile Thunder. But, when the third quarter started, the captain stamped his imprint on the game, ripping off seven straight points (a fallaway...
Year after year, Paul Pierce has been a foundational rock for the Boston Celtics. Throughout his career, he has filled a myriad of roles and willed his team to wins in the clutch, but his game has evolved over time. Always a crafty player, "The Truth" has fine-tuned his post game, hesitation dribble, ball fakes, step-backs, and jump shot in order to stay competitive despite...

ORLANDO - Paul Pierce missed a potential game-winning shot in regulation, but he didn't miss in overtime, hitting the key three-pointer that propelled the Boston Celtics to a 116-110 victory over the Orlando Magic Sunday night. Pierce, the 10-time All-Star, scored 23 points and hit the only shot he took in the extra period with 2:10 remaining, igniting a final charge and giving...
So I may have reached a bit with my headline, but I needed that win.
Fueled by Paul Pierce and Jeff Green, the Celtics beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, 108-100. While Pierce and Green deserve credit for strong individual performances, this truly was a team effort. The Celtics had 8 offensive rebounds. The bench cranked out 35 points. The defense came alive (in the 2nd and 3rd quarters...

A lot of people aren't that high on Joseph, because he doesn't have the Sportcenter athleticism, but I like the kid and I think he has an NBA future. So far Jospeh has played well in Summer League, preseason, and now in the D-League. I like how he filled out the stat sheet yesterday (8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals, to go along with the 28 points). I would...

BOSTON — Jeff Green found the concept baffling. His good friend and former teammate, Kevin Durant, dropped 29 points against him, yet it was suggested that he and Paul Pierce had teamed up to make the Oklahoma City Thunder forward’s night miserable.
“He still got 37 points,” Green said, before he was quickly told Durant’s actual scoring total. “Close to 30, whatever....
