PLAYERS: Paul Pierce
TEAMS: Boston Celtics
The aging Boston Celtics aren't even pretending to be young anymore.  Paul Pierce is playing with a pain in his neck, literally.  At 35 years old, the aches and pains of the game have to catch up.  In Pierce's case, they are catching up in the form of a pinched nerve.According to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald, Pierce suffered a pinched nerve in his neck and understands it is just something he is going to have to play through.  Pierce believes the pain is something he will experience throughout the rest of the season, maybe longer. The Celtics' two biggest stars are both in their late 30's.  Kevin Garnett may retire at the end of the season, and Paul Pierce might simply fall apart.  The team is hoping to make one last run, but it doesn't seem like they have the steam to do so.Pierce is averaging 18.5 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game.  In his career, he has averaged 21.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Pierce: Neck pain may never go away

We recently learned that Paul Pierce is playing through neck pain, but no one realized how bad it was until today. “I probably won’t be fully recovered from it until the season is over, if I ever do,” Pierce said. “I probably have a little bit of nerve damage in my back, part of my neck. It’s something that I’ve been playing through over the last several months. I’m...

Photo Gallery: Paul Pierce’s “Black History Month” Legacy 3′s

I occasionally get questions on Twitter about what sneakers players are wearing during games.  But no sneaker this season has gotten more “what ARE those?” than the kicks Paul Pierce has busted out the past few games. Pierce is still wearing his usual Nike Legacy 3′s… but he’s wearing a special “Black History Month” colorway that features a distinctive pattern and...

Still Can’t Handle the Truth

Washed up. Over the hill. On the decline. Those are just a few of the adjectives used to describe Boston Celtics’ captain Paul Pierce these days. But while the 14-year veteran might just laugh them off as nonsensical banter, his stat line suggests otherwise. Through 57 games for the Celtics, Pierce is averaging 18.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists in over 33.9 minutes per...

Paul Pierce says he won’t be fully recovered from the pinched nerve in his neck until after the season, and although it’s been bothering him for a few months, he will carry through and play on. According to Ben Rohrbach, WEEI.com: “I probably won’t be fully recovered until the season is over..if I ever do. I probably got a little bit of nerve damage in the back part of my...

The Captain is as healthy as he's going to be for the rest of the season

From WEEI Celtics blogger Ben Rohrbach: Pierce: Pinched nerve "probably been the reason I’ve been up-and-down a lot." VIDEO: greenstreet.weei.com/sports/boston/… — Ben Rohrbach (@brohrbach) February 28, 2013 Paul Pierce is one tough SOB, the fact that he’s playing through a pinched nerve is unreal to me. I kind of wish this information would have come out after...

Recap: Pierce, Green help Celtics smother Warriors

Thanks to some aggressive defense by Avery Bradley and some creative defensive zones, the Celtics put the clamps on Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors tonight.  Boston held Curry to 6-22 FGs and the Warriors to just 34% shooting for the game. The 94-86 win is Boston’s 8th straight at the Garden. The Green: As I predicted in the game preview, Paul Pierce (26 points, 9...

Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck joined Mut and Merloni on WEEI 93.7 FM for an hour long interview this Tuesday. When asked about the legacy of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, and whether they would have their numbers retired in the rafters with the other legends, Grousbeck said that he didn’t really want to think about that while these guys were still playing. However, later he said...

Your Morning Dump…where Wyc would retire Garnett’s number

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump  “These are guys that I can’t imagine giving those numbers out to anybody else,” Grousbeck said on WEEI. Grousbeck called Pierce the “linchpin” of the Celtics’ success during his tenure, which predates...

Celtics Remain Competitive in Eastern Conference

The Boston Celtics will need strong interior play from Brandon Bass. It’s the end of the world for the Boston Celtics. They failed to sell off their aging core that includes franchise cornerstone Paul Pierce. Would the Celtics be better off trading Pierce and Kevin Garnett for thirty cents of a dollar? If the Celtics moved Pierce or Garnett for a player like Josh Smith of the Atlanta...
