He had the Boston-New York rivalry while a member of the Celtics for 15 years, and now with Brooklyn, Paul Pierce is part of the newly formed Knicks-Nets battle for New York rivalry. In an interview with SLAM Magazine, Pierce talks about his pregame preparations and says he will be listening to “war music” before stepping on the court to face the Knicks this season.
SLAM: I always wonder what NBA players are listening to immediately before games.
PP: I like versatility. It depends on my mood. If I want that killer instinct, or I want to ease into the game—it’s just a different type of music based on the situation. If I don’t like a team, it’s all war music.
SLAM: So, if we’re talking Knicks-Nets at Madison Square Garden…
PP: War music. All war music.
SLAM: It was always so obvious that you loved destroying the Knicks.
PP: Oh yeah. That was my favorite place to play.
