MINNEAPOLIS – Two-time All Star Kevin Love worked overtime the last three days in an effort to carry himself and his team successfully into 2013, and then teammate Nikola Pekovic took the Timberwolves there in Saturday’s 111-107 victory over Phoenix at Target Center. Losers of big leads in consecutive games before Saturday, the Wolves watched a nine-point, third-quarter lead disappear before Love sent himself into the New Year encouraged and Pekovic sent the Wolves into it with a winning 13-12 record thanks to his six points scored in fewer than two minutes down the stretch. Pekovic’s 28-point, 11-rebound night and Love’s 23-point, 18-rebound game helped end a two-game losing streak while sending the Suns to their fifth consecutive defeat. With Ricky Rubio a late scratch because of back spasms, the Wolves played with just three healthy guards, but they compensated with a frontcourt that combined for 68 points on 31 for 53 shooting once you add in Andrei Kirilenko’s 20-point ni...

Brandon Roy has reportedly faced more setbacks while rehabbing his knee. He has played in only five games for Minnesota this year.
Brandon Roy is not ready to retire. Although he did step away from the game for a seasons, retiring because of chronic issues with his knees, Roy came back this year. He played well, but the knee problems came back. He's not ready to pull the trigger quite as fast on retirement this time around though. According to an Associated Press report, Roy will seek a more intensive...
MINNEAPOLIS J.J. Barea raised his arms in incredulity, the most J.J. Barea of shrugs. It was directed mostly at the refs -- he ended up with a technical foul -- but at least partly at the shot he'd just accidentally assisted. It was the sloppiest kind of pretty.
As the clock ticked down at the end of the third quarter, Barea had just heaved a shot while teetering beyond the...
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy had a setback in recovering from his latest knee surgery and his return in uncertain, according to Yahoo! Sports. Roy, who has had seven knee surgeries during his career and came out of retirement this season, was scheduled to begin practicing Friday. However, he was unable to go Friday and Saturday. Roy, who is averaging 5.8 points in...
MINNEAPOLIS In the NBA, the distinction between Dec. 31, 2012 and Jan. 1, 2013 is nil. The season continues, the games keep on coming and teams are largely the same as they were the night before. Regardless, though, there's some finality to the end of a calendar year, especially for a team like the Timberwolves that's so dramatically different today than it was at the end...
MINNEAPOLIS The Timberwolves have just one game remaining in 2012, and now that we're two months into the season, it's a bit easier to evaluate what lies ahead. Most preseason analysis now seems irrelevant -- I clearly remember counting a November matchup against Golden State as a likely win and noting that the Timberwolves were fortunate not to face the Lakers until February...
MINNEAPOLIS -- Two-time All Star Kevin Love put in three days worth of hard work in an attempt to carry himself and his team successfully into 2013, and then teammate Nikola Pekovic took the Timberwolves there in Saturday’s 111-107 victory over Phoenix at Target Center. Sidetracked most of the season by injury, illness and some untimely comments made to Yahoo! Sports, Love stayed...
Oh what could have been...
Brandon Roy's new return date is uncertain.
Derrick Williams had a decent showing in Minnesota’s 111-107 win over Phoenix Saturday, but he probably would have like to have this alley-oop attempt back. Williams got a long pass from Alexey Shved and tried dunking it home except the rim got in the way. The result was a pretty solid brick for the blooper reel.

MINNEAPOLIS Happy New Year, and welcome to 2013 in the NBA, where Tuesday's games mean as much as Monday's, where win streaks remain and losing streaks linger and today looks about the same as yesterday. The New Year in basketball is little more than semantics, its only value being that the playoffs are one day closer, the season that much more advanced, identities that...
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Unable to find an answer for Luis Scola's versatile offensive game, the Minnesota Timberwolves did the only thing they could to combat it -- they flexed their muscles and went right back at him on the other end.
Pekovic had 28 points and 11 rebounds and Kevin Love added 23 points and 18 boards to lift the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 111-107 victory over the...
