New Orleans Pelicans second-year backup forward Darius Miller could miss up to 12 weeks after suffering a stress fracture in his left foot that required surgery the team announced Monday. Miller 6 feet 8 235 pounds had been experiencing discomfort in his foot during recent volunteer workouts before team doctors diagnosed the injury. Although he is set to begin rehabilitation work in New Orleans on Tuesday Miller is expected to miss all of training camp that is set to begin on Oct. 1. As a rookie last season Miller played in 52 games and averaged 2.3 points. Last season Miller was the only New Orleans player on the roster to draw a NBA Development League assignment. He played in 11 games for the Iowa Energy which included eight starts and averaged 9.9 points 3.5 rebounds 1.6 assists in 27.2 minutes before he was recalled in January. During summer league play in Las Vegas during July Miller showed promise as a perimeter scorer at small forward. But he was still expected to have difficulty drawing significant minutes off the bench this upcoming season because of the Pelicans' upgraded roster that includes Tyreke Evans who is expected to play both small forward and shooting guard positions. The Pelicans also re-signed small forward Al Farouq Aminu who started 71 of 76 games last season and averaged 7.3 points and a career-high 7.7 rebounds. Miller and Pelicans second-year power forward Anthony Davis helped to lead Kentucky to a 38-2 record and the 2012 national championship. As a senior Miller earned the Southeastern Conference Sixth-Man of the Year award averaging 9.9 points 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. New Orleans selected Miller as the 46th overall pick in the second round of the 2012 NBA draft.
