Paul Pierce scored 23 points, and the Boston Celtics beat the New York Knicks 102-96 on Monday night in a heated first meeting of the season between the Atlantic Division rivals. Kevin Garnett added 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Celtics, who even without the suspended Rajon Rondo won their third straight and finally are playing like the team that has ruled the division for the last half-decade. The Knicks want that title now, but Carmelo Anthony and his teammates were reminded how tough the Celtics can make it. Anthony had 20 points but shot 6 of 26 while battling his temper, Garnett and foul trouble. J.R. Smith led the Knicks with 24 points.

Green Envy: What Knicks fans said - 1/7

Maybe the greatest win of the season so far? I haven't really had a lot of ill will against the Knicks, but maybe that's because the Celtics always beat the Knicks. Reading through the comments, it's pretty evident that that's why. The Knicks fans hate the Celtics. It's great to see how much they fear Paul Pierce. It seems like Pierce always has great games at...

Comments from the Other Side - Knicks 1/7

Knicks fans have to be the most classless in the league.  They even have the Lakers and Heat fans beat for having the least class in the league.  They even beat the Nets fans even though they are now in the same city.   Any time you see fans wishing death or injury on a player, all class has left the building.   They really had no room to complain about the officials either...

Paul Pierce seals win by blowing a kiss to Knicks fans (Video)

Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce blew a kiss to New York Knicks fans at Madison Square Garden after hitting a 21-footer to seal the win for the Celtics. The basket by Pierce gave the Celtics a 6 point lead with 45 seconds left and put the game out of reach. Pierce led the Celtics in scoring during Monday night's 102-96 victory over the Knicks. Pierce's playful...

The Celtics we saw last night could win the NBA title, Vol. III

Paul Pierce buried the Knicks.  Again. Click here for Part 1 from Saturday and Sunday's Part 2.  I never intended to write more than one of these,  but each consecutive victory has been more impressive than the last.  The New York Knicks we're just half a game behind Miami for the top spot in the East, and boasted a 13-3 home record.  The Celtics were missing their...

Enemy Chatter: Paul Pierce is this generations Reggie Miller for Knicks fans

We often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics. Here’s a look at some enemy chatter from New York. Paul Pierce is this generations Reggie Miller for us Knicks fans. Tonight, watching this game, I thought the intensity was great. The fight and passion was fun to see and both teams wanted this game badly. It is so difficult to...

Comments from the Other Side - Hawks 1/5

This was a very satisfying win for the Celtics.  I love it when there are a lot of Celtics fans in opposing buildings.  Atlanta seems to be the best for that.   Lots of Josh Smith hate.  I'm not really sure why Celtics fans are ready to give up a ton to get this guy when the fans that watch him night in and out don't like him.   A fun game and some fun comments. ...

Boston Celtics 102, New York Knicks 96: Postgame Analysis

In a playoff-esque atmosphere, Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics (17-17) secure their first three-game winning streak of the 2012-13 season in result of a 102-96 victory over the New York Knicks (23-11). If you missed some of the Atlantic Division match-up due to the tedious BCS National Championship, here is my analysis from the Broadway Showdown. Tremendous collective effort by...

Paul Pierce, Carmelo Anthony’s Contrasts in Style, Substance on Display in NBA’s Best Rivalry

One of the few items missing from Paul Pierce‘s repertoire is the lack of a trademark celebratory gesture. In more than 14 years in the NBA, Pierce has offered little along the lines of Jason Terry‘s “Jet” flight or Kevin Garnett‘s vicious chest-pound. He has nothing as subtle as LeBron James‘ superhero pose or as unconcealed as Russell Westbrook‘s primal yell. Whenever...

Your Morning Dump… Where Grit and Balls may have Been Re-discovered in Atlanta

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. According to the NBA schedule, the Celtics will host Phoenix on Wednesday. Last night they were a phoenix.Rising from the ashes of a 19-point, first-half deficit, the Celts turned the beating around in stunning...

The Celtics we saw last night could win the NBA title, Version 2.0

Click here to read the original version from yesterday.  In the first half last night the Celtics played exactly as you might expect for a team on the road against a quality opponent on night two of a back to back, and they trailed the Hawks by 15 at the break.  But it the second half Boston exhibited the same defensive intensity we saw the day before against the Pacers. After...
