Scottie Pippen says the Chicago Bulls still are the team to beat even without the injured Derrick Rose. In an open letter to the team posted Tuesday on the Bulls' website, Pippen writes, ''You're still the best team in the NBA until an opponent proves otherwise.'' The Hall of Famer also compares the loss of Rose to Michael Jordan's first retirement and points out the 1993-94 team won 55 games. Pippen says the Bulls ''believed in ourselves'' and never ''felt sorry for ourselves.'' Rose tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee late in Game 1 against Philadelphia, a staggering blow for the top-seeded team. The Bulls took a 1-0 lead into Game 2 on Tuesday.

Scottie Pippen’s open letter to the Chicago Bulls

Ever since the Bulls reigning MVP, Derrick Rose, went down in game one of the first round of the 2012 NBA finals, the Bulls have decided to write each other motivational messages. Bulls great, Scottie Pippen got in on the action. “Yes, you lost one of your brothers—a warrior in every sense of the word—but I know and you know you’ve still got a lot of fight left,” writes...

Optimism In Chicago Is Dwindling

Whether it was the presence of their fallen MVP or a letter of encouragement from Scottie Pippen, the Chicago Bulls came out firing against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Derrick Rose's surgery likely to be postponed

Though the Chicago Bulls may have captured a 1-0 lead in their opening round series versus the Sixers Saturday, the win was overshadowed after All-Star point guard Derrick Rose suffered a torn ACL in his left knee late in the game. And now that Rose is lost for the remainder of the postseason, it means it is time for him to get his knee repaired. But any immediate surgery will be...

The Deeper Consequences of Derrick Rose’s Torn ACL

I’ve come to grips with the immediate consequences of Derrick Rose’s injury. A few good laughs and a Mad Men marathon, helped take my mind off of things. I still have trouble coming to terms with the longer reaching ramifications, which I want to talk out here. And I realize talking about pain and hurt (as a fan) is trivial compared to what Rose is going through both physically...

The Derrick Rose injury/Titanic mash-up is glorious (Video)

I feel bad piling on injured Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose but the below video might be the best mash-up video that I've seen in awhile. It uses Derrick Rose's game one injury against the 76ers and mashes it up with audio from the 1997 movie, "Titanic" as Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) talking to Rose (Kate Winslet) at the end of the film when she jumps...

Can Bulls make ‘Ewing Theory’ type playoff run?

With Derrick Rose’s season over, almost everyone has written off the Chicago Bulls’ title hopes, and understandably so. But what about the “Ewing Theory”? You know, Dave Cirilli and Bill Simmons’ theory that says a team occasionally comes together in the absence of its star and actually plays better than before? Is there any chance the Bulls can make a Ewing Theory-like...

Reactions after a weekend of Game 1's

There is still a lot of basketball left to be played in the first round of this year's playoffs, but you can learn a lot from the first game. I had the pleasure of watching the opening game of every series this weekend, so here are a few quick thoughts. Chicago Bulls lead Philadelphia 76ers 1-0 It is hard to pick out anything important that happened in this game. Oh wait ...

Picking Up The Ball That The Iceman Dropped

Delmon does not approve. I might be the only one that felt this way, but I admit to being widely disappointed in The Iceman for not using his weekly turd to talk about the fairly newsworthy NBA playoffs yesterday. I feel cheated. Look, I’m all for Biff Tannen and Eddie Harris and Andre The Giant references, but when a veritable ********* of news in your zone of expertise comes...

Starting 5: Nuggets get close, Philly takes advantage & Pierce goes off

Every morning, we'll give you five things from the night before in the NBA to start your day. 1: The Nuggets get closer... but.... They're just not good enough to beat the Lakers. The playoffs are all about matchups, and these are some tough matchups for the Nuggets. All the double teaming of Bynum worked well enough in stretches, but he's still too big for them ...
