Detroit Pistons center Ben Wallace has waived his right to a preliminary hearing after being charged with drunken driving
and unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon. The hearing was designed to determine whether there was enough evidence to send Wallace to trial. The defense lawyer will go over the evidence before deciding how to proceed.Wallace was arrested last week when officers spotted him driving erratically. An unloaded gun was found inside his vehicle, and Wallace's blood-alcohol level was above Michigan's legal limit of 0.08 per cent.He was released from jail on a $5,000 bond. The
undrafted big man was instrumental in helping the Pistons capture the
2004 NBA championship as one of the sport's premier rebounders and shot
blockers. He averaged 2.9 points and 6.5 rebounds with Detroit last season.
