AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- While the playoff-bound Philadelphia 76ers rested a handful of their regulars, the Detroit Pistons' season finale was a tale of two Bens. Reserve guard Ben Gordon poured in 26 points, including eight 3-pointers, as the Pistons cruised to a 108-86 victory over the 76ers at The Palace on Thursday night. Center Ben Wallace, playing perhaps the final game of his career, added seven points and 12 rebounds. "We just wanted to come out and honor Body (Wallace)," said Gordon, who made seven 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Pistons tied an NBA record with 11 in the quarter. "This might be his last game, and we all felt inspired tonight. My teammates did a good job of finding me, especially in that second quarter. I was able to make a lot of shots. It was a lot of fun." The loss ensures the 76ers, who entered with a four-game winning streak, will be the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Philadelphia will play a best-of-s...

If he's done, Pistons' Wallace goes out a winner

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Ben Wallace isn't sure that his career is over, but the Palace crowd wasn't taking any chances. The chant started with 90 seconds to play in the season, and Wallace sitting on the bench for the end of the Pistons' 108-86 over Philadelphia. At first, a few fans in one section began to chant "We Want Ben," but it quickly spread to one...

Owner Gores, Dumars optimistic about '12-13 Pistons

AUBURN HILLS -- Tom Gores says the biggest thing he had to learn in his first year as Pistons owner is patience. He still doesn't have a lot of it. Gores had a end-of-season meeting with the media Thursday evening, and his message was clear. "We better make the playoffs this season," he said. Team president Joe Dumars and Pistons coach Lawrence Frank had their end...

Pistons show improvement, but rebuilding continues

If there was one game that stood out in the Detroit Pistons' season, it may have been the March 21 contest at Denver. That was the night Detroit trailed by 22 points after the first quarter, rallied behind a 45-point effort from Ben Gordon - then lost by one in the final seconds when the Nuggets made a layup while drawing a foul, missed the free throw and scored on a putback...

Big Ben closes out unpredictable career

I always say that Ben Wallace is one of the best stories I have ever covered. If you took his story to Hollywood and tried to sell it, they'd probably tell you it was too farfetched, that it wasn't believable. Imagine this: An undrafted, somewhat undersized power forward who has limited offensive skills goes on to win an NBA title, four Defensive Player of the Year awards...

Turner, Meeks combine to lead 76ers to 90-85 win over Bucks

MILWAUKEE -- What only a week ago was supposed to be a critical game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night was instead a rather meaningless one. With the 76ers having already nudged out the Bucks for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, neither team had much at stake in the Bradley Center. But despite using patched-up...

Evan Turner said Sixers wanted Bulls because Heat are tougher for them

The first-round playoff series between the Bulls and 76ers got much more exciting thanks to some comments from Evan Turner. The Sixers guard was asked last weekend what it would mean to play the Bulls in the playoffs, and he answered candidly. “It means we’re dodging the tougher team. That’s what I think,” Turner told the Delaware County Daily Times. “I think we’ll be...

Evan Turner really wants the Chicago Bulls in NBA Playoffs

Philadelphia 76ers guard and 2010 #2 overall pick Evan Turner is looking forward to a potential  match-up against his hometown Chicago Bulls. After Turner scored a career high 29 points on the Milwaukee Bucks last night, I asked Turner about the potential first round playoff match-up with the Bulls. “We probably match-up better with them, they’re by far the best team in the...

2010 #2 pick Evan Turner progresses in 2nd year with Sixers

When the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Evan Turner #2 overall out of Ohio State in 2010, they thought they were selecting a franchise cornerstone. Finishing his college basketball career with the Buckeyes, he was as highly decorated as a player can be- sweeping all the national individual awards. His rookie year did anything but live up to the hype however. Turner really struggled...

Bulls-76ers preview: Stats say series will be dominated by defense

Philadelphia 76ers guard Evan Turner might have been right when he said the Sixers match up better with the Chicago Bulls, their opponents in the first round of the playoffs, than the Miami Heat. But it doesn't mean the Sixers match up well. The Sixers, 20-9 at one point this season, struggled thereafter and finished 35-31, leaving them the Eastern Conference's eighth...

Click on more to read about the 2012 NBA scoring title Kevin Durantt dropped 32 on the Nuggets last night, Kobe’s got the Kings tonight. Advantage Durant. Big time. 76ers-Pistons Preview

Despite a largely rough final two months of the season, the Philadelphia 76ers have played well down the stretch. The visiting 76ers hope to build even more momentum heading into the playoffs with a fifth consecutive victory in Thursday night's regular-season finale against the Detroit Pistons. Philadelphia (35-30) had a four-game lead in the Atlantic Division on Feb. 13, but...
