Coach Popovich compared Stephen Curry to MIchael Jordan Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have become this year’s darlings of the NBA playoffs. Curry, with his smooth stroke, led the Warriors to a first round upset over the Denver Nuggets. Their reward now; the San Antonio Spurs. Coach Popovich was asked about the playoff grind and his thoughts were very surprising as the Spurs coach is known for his difficult interviews. Via Spurs Nation: With Pop, you never know what kind of response you’re going to get. In this case he waxed poetic, using a 35-point performance by Golden State sharpshooter Stephen Curry just days earlier as a cipher for his enduring love of the game. “It was like playing against Michael Jordan,” he said. “I was watching him make shots I couldn’t believe anybody could make. When you get close to playoffs, you see those kinds of performances. It’s always memorable for all of us — coach, fans, players, everyone.” Comparing ANY player to Michael Jordan is usually blasphemous. For coach Pop to make this comparison to a player like Stephen Curry, who is making his first playoff appearance  in his young career, seems like he may have got a bit carried away. Curry was told about the high praise he received from Coach Popovich and his response drew laughter among the media members. “Was he drunk when he said that?” Curry said, prompting a round of laughter from the assembled media horde. “That’s crazy. I don’t know. That’s an awesome compliment but that’s a small sample size he saw on the court that one game. Hopefully, I can do it again, but to compare me to MJ is crazy.”   The post Popovich compares Steph Curry to Michael Jordan, then gets sobriety questioned appeared first on Pass The Pill - Kings of Hoops.
